Intelligent Energy Systems (IES) is an established consulting and software company that provides advisory services and software solutions to organisations dealing in energy markets. While IES specialises in reforming and reformed electricity markets, it also does work in gas markets and macro/national energy systems. Central to the IES business model is research and development, which feeds into its advisory work and software products.

Within Australia IES advisory work includes leadership in the establishment of the de-regulated energy markets, economic and market studies associated with future price outcomes and risk assessment, support to M&A activities, macro energy market studies, regulatory and policy advice, renewable energy products, training on a variety of issues, and strategic advice to trading companies.

Outside of Australia IES works in countries that include Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and many of the ASEAN countries. Such work includes a review of the benefits the reformed electricity market has brought to Singapore, World Bank funded training programs, and the institutional strengthening and broad approaches to energy policy analysis in six of the ASEAN countries.

IES is the dominant supplier of electricity market modelling and market data visualisation software in Australia. IES software is also used and supplied in New Zealand, Singapore, UK and Ireland.

IES clients within and outside of Australia include electricity generation and energy retailing businesses trading in electricity and gas markets, industry and market regulators, banks and investors, government, transmission companies, and market and system operators.

IES has three main business groups:
